They not only waste their time on it. They worship the players as gods. And the game controls their life.
“And the game controls their life.”
Packers, Reds, and University of Kentucky basketball and football fan here. I do wonder at times if I’m making an idol of sports? So I try to take care of other things while watching the games. Opening mail. Cooking. Eating. Washing dishes. Doing some stuff on the Internet.
Used to go up to a local watering hole to watch Packers games not on local TV. Haven’t the last two COVID seasons. Am I slowly souring because of kneeling and left-wing slogans thrown in my face on helmets and the field? Probably. Met some good people there though, one wears a MAGA hat.
A few years back the Packers lost a hard fought overtime game at the Redskins, oops, I mean, the “Football Team”, I mean, the Commanders. One Washington fan let out a whoop at the game-winning field goal and quickly walked out of the bar. Most intense Packers’ fan went flying out the door after him. Other men quickly ran outside and got in front of him. Guy was about to risk committing an assault with the possibility of jail time and a civil suit over a football game.
