I agree and the people they were mocking was pretty good…Mika and the character that was a combo of Elon gates and Bezos. I didn’t see it as a totally left wing movie it was more like they were mocking the left in my view.
Hey it has nothing to do with our country or any other country, living or dead. Meryl streep plays the President and apparently she is a Republican. Seth Rogan, Joe Rogan’s fat little brother, is her son. De Crapio is the scientist who tries to warn everyone in the style of Jor El. It’s decent writing, funny in places, and good enough that I stayed to see the end. I won’t spoiler it because you might enjoy it. Go ahead and watch it if you pay for Netflix. Don’t subscribe to Netflix just for this movie.
They reviewed some of the ones you listed.
They would probably welcome you as a reviewer
It seems they are a non profit site similar in many ways to this one
That was how I saw it. Basically satire aimed at the over the top leftists and elitists. Of course they are so convinced of their own intelligence and superiority they probably only saw the superficial message - gosh, bad things are coming and we must lead! LOL Yeah, and how did that work out? {spoiler alert} Earth destroyed, protagonist eaten by aliens...
The really hilarious irony is that this movie was dead on target for the way government deals with every major crisis. DiCaprio and Streep did it because it was supposed to show how stupid people are by not panicking over climate change. The whole asteroid thing was just a proxy for their pet apocalypse theory. The number of enthusiastic conservative reviews for a very funny satirical movie is backfiring on their smug joke big time.
It’s funny
The movie “Don’t Look Up”, is the name?
Yes, it was definitely thinly veiled satire of the Trump family, but I thought that was lame and secondary to the evil, corruption, incompetence, and incestuous relationships of government.
That’s what I got out of it. Yes, it was dark satire, I think brilliantly done.
My problems with it, WAAAAY too much bad language, and the sex and nudity were unnecessary.
I’m no prude, stop beating us over the head with the language-before I retired, most of what I would hear in the shop was EF this and EF that, and I wasn’t without guilt, because I said my share of four letter words.
Did you watch through the credits? There is hidden ending that is hilarious.
Don’t.
An anagram for Availeth is Thai Veal.
That’s a new one on me. I’ll have to make it sometime.
Supposedly it is aimed to make Americans look anti science and dumb.
Assumes only the MSM can get out information, and assumes NASA is the only one who would try to stop the asteroid, ignoring that China and Elon Musk and probably Russia could do it.
Indeed, China released a movie last year where they, not Bruce Willis, saved the world.
You can keep them!
Regards,
I saw it this way as well. The movie was written pre Covid as a climate denier satire but cane off as a parody of a parody as it relates to the current state of our governments response to Covid.
Yes. On Netflix.
Oops, I meant hate of course. Darn auto correct.
We must get different impressions of it. I thought the “don’t look up” movement in the movie was a commentary on any lobby that latches unquestioningly onto conspiracy theories without caring how utterly dumb or extreme the conspiracy theory actually is. They always get hurt in the end.
You can apply that to the COVID lockdown fanatics who’ve been driven into penury by their beliefs, but you can also apply it to anti vaxxers at the extreme end (the ones who were talked into attending superspreader events without face masks and were on ventilators a week later).
Critical thinking has been overtaken by utter belief in random crap these days, people will literally listen to anything stupid, and do something stupid, for mo reason other than it’s vaguely based on a totally bonkers conspiracy theory that taps into their beliefs and biases.
I am anti statism and anti snake oil but I am not so effing stupid as to fall for a libertarian rally call to the effect of, “get yourselves to a mass protest without masks and full of half dead COVID suffering coughers, to prove how wrong it is.”
Likely as too critical or conservative.
