8 drinks a WEEK? I don’t drink that much in a month. I’ve just never really been a drinker. But I don’t abstain, either. An occasional glass or two of wine, especially with a holday dinner. A celebratory single-malt scotch once in a great while. I’ve even been known to drink a beer every couple of years.

This is a lightweight existence for a Catholic. I'm disappointed.

You need a few remedial Long Island Iced Teas.

Sorry. I’ll say an extra Rosary.

I didn’t drink much when I was young because I was always broke, and after my father moved out of state, I couldn’t go drink his beer or scotch (he may have moved out of state because I drank a lot of his beer and scotch, and then nagged him to buy better beer and scotch).

When I became somewhat more prosperous, I tried to drink a little more, but I’d forget to get to the liquor store.

As I’ve gotten even older, half the time I’m on temporary “no-alcohol” restriction for medical reasons.

;-)

In their study, the 8 “units” means about 4 drinks.

Anyway, it is a stupid study. There is a host of reasons why drinking might correlate to bad health outcomes that have nothing to do with the drinks being alcoholic. For example, beers have calories. Two British pints in a pub every night could mean over 400 extra calories per day. Make it 3 pints and it’s more calories than a Big Mac.
