I get that many Governors, by law, have “emergency powers” they can enable. I don’t agree with them, too subjective and easy to abuse...but whatever.
That said, I do not recognize ANY authority of a SCHOOL BOARD to be claiming any similar power. If there were no virus nobody would take them seriously about telling everyone to wear a mask. It’d be laughed at as obviously unconstitutional - you’re compelling somebody to wear an item of clothing. So where do they get to magically assert this authority?
As far as I’m concerned, because, in general, we try to follow the rules and be law abiding, and because nobody wants to harm kids, we’ve gone along with this nonsense out of an abundance of caution. At this point, we are GIVING them this authority by complying - and it is time to stop. If all the kids just show up at school without masks and refuse to eat outside, what are they going to do? Suspend everyone?
We’re giving them authority they do not have, now we’re used to it and they’re abusing it. Just stop.
Very well said fuzzylogic!
