He was a criminal, and they made loud announcements that they were police and had a search warrant, they had to use a breaching tool too. He started shooting out the window, then started shooting at the cops who finally got the door knocked open.
He wasn’t some innocent person startled by cops he misidentified. He knew it was cops and shot it out.
Sometimes the cops are wrong, but this one they were the good guys. Also it was not a wrong address, it was a place where the killer was staying but he was out right then.

So, a guy is sleeping on his couch at 5 am when he is awakened by a loud bang accompanied by his door being broken in and some guy shooting at him through the window. He should have known that this was a lawful police entry because bad guys don't use explosives.
OK, but just maybe the cops would have better spent their time and resources surveilling the property and ascertaining that the guy they wanted wasn't there rather that busting in during the middle of the night and killing someone they weren't looking for.
