KRASNOILSK, Ukraine (AP) — Dressed as goats, bears, oxen and cranes, many Ukrainians ring in the new year in the colorful rituals of the Malanka holiday.
Malanka, which draws on pagan folk tales, marks the new year according to the Julian calendar, meaning it falls on Jan. 13-14.
In the festivities, celebrants go from house to house, where the dwellers offer them food.

Are you crazy? We've had the media and Democrats come with a phony Russian collusion scandal to try to justify impeaching Trump. Liz Cheney and Deep State spread the lie that the Russians were paying off the Taliban to kill American troops in Iraq. And, now, Biden, through the media, is trying to take the focus off his failed agenda by focusing on a Russian-Ukraine conflict that we shouldn't have anything to do with directly.
So, the idea the media is pro-Russian is lunacy.
It sounds to me like it’s a “ These people are heathen and need to be conquered so as to be brought into the Orthodox community “ kind of narrative.
They’re in blackface! We can’t have that! Away with the Evil People!/s

Descendents of Swiss immigrants celebrate it in Helvetia, WV every year and non-Swiss from all around come for the festival.
Let the propaganda BS commence.
While I agree with you….sometimes the AP guys have to file “something” every couple of days. They are fun pictures. It could be that simple.
Once you have paid him the Danegeld, you never get rid of the Dane
I wonder if perhaps Ukraine as a former Soviet republic managed to retain a small arsenal of nukes after the collapse. Perhaps they'll do the world some good by removing the Russian leadership in one glorious "BOOM"!
Just like Irish festivals and St. Patrick's Day...everybody loves a party!
Normally, I try not to chalk stuff up to malice, when there are other reasonable explanations like incompetency, deadlines, etc. As I used to tell my children though, "Future expectations are guided by past performance."
It was a joke. Obvious to all, since you are the only one who took embrace to it.
Or Halloween, or Christmas carolers or mummers, "celebrants go from house to house, where the dwellers offer them food."
Should read ‘umbrage’ .
