I actually interviewed Brian Boitano years ago about his post-Olympics trip to Alaska to skate on a glacier. Nice fellow.

On a side note i was at the ‘88 Olympics in Calgary and saw Brian Boitano win and Debbie Thomas lose.
My wife and I were also in Salt Lake City in 2002 and attended the women’s short and free skates. Watching Sarah Hughes win the gold, and everything that went on that night in the arena, was one of the most thrilling events I’ve been to- and I’ve been to a lot of major sporting events.
I wonder if there will be a day when a biological female tries to lift a biological male in competitive figureskating? Until now, it was too absurd to contemplate.

I loved Sarah Hughes! I rooted for her since I first saw her. Class act. She won because she was good and didn’t fall, like the rest of them did.
I hope that she is very happy in life. A humble beautiful skater!

I still watch her free skate and always get tears in my eyes.
I will never forget that night. The crowd (20,000 people) went from heaven (Sarah Hughes skate) to hell (Michelle Kwon slip) back to heaven again (Russian skater slip and Sarah winning the gold) in the course of 20 minutes.
Bell is one of those skaters apparently, who may not nail all her elements in practice, but rises to the occasion come “showtime” — you can tell she really works off the crowd. so my prayer for her is that she finds something her spirit can connect with and feel sparked by while in Beijing. I’m not sure how large or what the energy of the crowd will be like that there...I know USA media is not sending certain hosts or something?
My BF at the time used to disagree about Sarah. She wasn’t as beautiful as the others (I am not considered a beauty) but Sarah held her own, did her job and won.
Just like Suni Lee winning the all-a-round. She is Hmong and didn’t get the platitudes that the other “victem” got.
