There is no reason to mandate a vaccine that does nothing to affect infection or transmission. It probably is part of why the UK is changing course - as the US ought to! COVID has become “the flu” - an unpleasant but very survivable viral infection that high-risk people ought to be very careful about while the rest of us go on with our lives. And you should get a shot or not based on your own risk factors and lifestyle and willingness to accept a possible high death risk.
PS: Recovering from COVID as I type. Day 5 and it is almost gone. I’m in my 60s.
