I heard through the grapevine that the car manufacturers are leaning to use Intel chips to reduce their chip shortage in the future.
My brother was just telling me that last night. All through the pandemic supply-chain chip shortages, Intel was readily available. Don't know whether it was because they were in low demand (i.e. folks just didn't want them).

I've heard that chip design is the longest part in designing new cars. It takes a while for the car engineers to confer with the software engineers of the cars to get exactly what they need the computer in the car to do, then the software engineers to confer with the hardware engineers (in this case Intel) exactly what they need the chip to do.
Throw in the extra complexity of things like what the EV's need their computer chips to do (including the traditional car manufacturers like Ford and GM making EV's) and it takes a loooong time to get all of that spec'd out and agreed to by the parties involved.
