Regardless of country, when it comes to international sports tournaments, here’s how I see it....
I’ll use Djokovic as an example but it could also be ANY athlete.
1. It’s Australia’s rules. Their country, their rules. Even Djokovic acknowledges that.
You can substitute Australia for France or the USA, the principle should be the same.
2. But are the rules scientific and reasonable? I would argue NO!
From a science point of view....
FIRSTLY, Djokovic has already recovered from Covid over a month before. Therefore has acquired natural immunity.
Therefore, if the concern is that he will spread the virus to others, the simple thing to do instead of going through this ridiculous quarantine hotel is:
a. Test him carefully to make sure he’s Covid negative.
b. Test him for Covid antibodies.
If he passes both, he should be all clear to compete.
Australia’s authorities including sadly, Scott Morrison himself would rather create a political scene than apply common sense.
Look, Japan successfully held the Tokyo Olympics including all contact sports without quarantines. Tennis isn’t even close contact.
There’s no evidence that Japan is experiencing any major outbreaks today. And consider this, Japan is one of those countries where vaccination is encouraged but NOT MANDATED.
So, Novak Djokovic is the current Australian, French and Wimbledon champion. He was the runner up in last year’s US OPEN. ALL IN 2021.
They all allowed him to play UNVACCINATED during the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and DELTA variants of the Coronavirus.
Suddenly in 2022, they won’t allow him to play? For what scientific reason?
There’s some hidden reasoning behind all these inconsistencies and I suspect it has something to do with loss of control and power, not concern over the virus’ transmission. There’s no science or logic behind this decision other than they don’t want to lose their power and control.

p.s. It appears you do not understand Australia’s government system. At the federal level our only mandate is that aged home workers are vaccinated. At the state level you have the same or worse mandates than many of our states.
