15 minutes conference with softball questions from pre-approved reporters. If for some reason, they are unable to follow the script, Joe’s handlers will intervene and end the conference promptly. “No more questions today.” And then escort him out of the room. You would only see The Daily Mail, The New York Post and Breitbart cover this. For everyone else, it’s business as usual.

It's easier to blame a drop on overnight news that way, since the timing of a drop won't correlate to the timing of the press conference like it does when Powell or Yellin speaks.
