It sure did, but also started to get worse with HMOs rising in late 80’s . That’s when I left bedside. Too much business in healthcare and only about profit margins. They have decimated the profession of nursing. Now they are basically mini administrators on the floor with very little assessment or hands on care. They don’t even examine or take own vital signs usually. Neither do doctors. If machine or algorithm doesn’t say it or see it, nothing is observed or done until you code or something screams ’end stage’
it started in the mid 70”s with the inplemation of Medicare DRG’s that care declined, Hospital i worked i oh around 76 or so, hired a new director of nursing from Chicago, said no more Cadillac care, the hospital i work in was renowned for the great care given. sad to see caring staff leave, or get layed off due to policys
