I watch a fair amount of Netflix etc., and I haven’t noticed the smoking spike that you mention. Not sure what’s going on there. Are you watching a lot of movies set in France or the Balkans? LOL.
As for mask-wearing in TV & movies. You know, I can understand why makers of visual entertainment would set their stories in a non-pandemic universe. At some point soon the mask thing will presumably be over, and you’re really “dating” your movie/tv show to 2020-22 by having characters mask up. Also, movies/tv shows are escapist entertainment. The audience doesn’t need or want to be reminded of masking. They want an escape. Unless covid is a plot point in the story, I’m glad they’re not masking.
In real pandemic movies, lots of folks just keel over and die while the first responders wear outer space suits.
