Jefferson was correct in wanting to encourage a nation of small, independent merchants and farmers, as opposed to centralizing finance and government.

If the majority of Americans are economically independent, they can afford to oppose onerous policies. But today, so many Americans rely on government benefits, or on large (woke) corporations for their livelihoods, it's harder to oppose their woke agendas.
