Probably because when the chance finally came during Covid-19 to try chloroquine in vivo on live human beings it failed to work like it did in the 2005 lab experiments using African green monkey tissue where it worked like a charm. Those lab tests are why HCQ was hoped to be effective against SARS viruses.

It appears, through what you just posted, that it works well if take as a prophylactic or immediately after contacting the virus - is this correct?
