The next step will be to close national parks from the public - in order to preserve them.

I see this increasingly with dogs not being allowed in certain areas any longer - mostly b/c people won’t pick up after their dogs so the only solution is to ban ALL dogs.

Soon it will be people.

It always ends up that the people who follow the rules/do the correct thing are penalized for the actions of losers.

There are Historic ‘tags’ from the early guides and visitors to Mammoth Cave. Some are well regarded by the historians of the Park, as guides and explorers. Some were slaves, getting advantages of their skills and experience.

In 70’s, if I recall, the Park started allowing self guided touring in which visitors could walk the trails in the Historic section by themselves. But this also allowed uncaring people to use pocket knives and such to disfigure walls and some nice places. The Park managers have learned their lesson and do not allow ‘free ranging’ anymore.

It will be like that anywhere barbarians can go, and modern ease of travel allows them to spread.

Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.
