It's not illegal for the cops to lie to a suspect. But I would think any conviction based on a confession extracted from such methods should be thrown out. However, if lying convinces a suspect to provide other corroborating evidence, that evidence should be admitted.

You're not supposed to talk to the police without an attorney, and if someone is stupid enough to do so, that's on them.

Convictions where fake documents were submitted to a court should be thrown out and the police and prosecutors responsible should be arrested and charged with perjury and criminal contempt.

That is a problem, if cops can lie, why can't innocent citizens? And up until a court convicts them, they are innocent.

No, cops should be fired and prosecuted for lying. No exceptions. Include any and all management that knew or approved of the practice.
