WA State Board of Health meeting

I watched, via their live stream, the entire meeting...what a long day.

Synopsis from my tired brain...

Once the initial "this is today's agenda" was done the MC said "we've had 7500 requests for public comment, more than we've ever had on any issue. We have allotted only 50 minutes for public comment (they went 20 minutes over) so everyone is limited to one minute and there will be no discussion/responses from BOH members".

Another board member wanted to clarify "it is not on the agenda to discuss covid interment/confinement camps; that is not an issue we are taking up".

blah, blah, goverment agency speak; fast forward to public comment. The majority of the comments were regarding the request to mandate vaccines for K-12 students. All the public comments were opposed. There were about ten comments regarding the "camps", a couple were heated, emotional, and saying the BOH were nazis. A few were calm, well spoken, and made excellent points (Constitution, etc.). All were opposed. With just over an hour of public comment there were only about 60 people who spoke.

Fast forward to the discussion of changing language in WAC regarding HIV. Since HIV is a communicable disease and comes under the WAC chapter that also contains the section regarding "camps" this is what started the whole kerfuffle.

After the BOH discussion they took 20 minutes of public comment which was supposed to be only about HIV.It was ALL about the "camps". All were opposed and outraged. The BOH had their butts handed to them.

On to mandated vaccines for students. This originated from a request (I don't remember from whom.) For that the process is the request goes to a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) which is comprised of WA citizens (not government employees).

Once the main discussion ended the chair of the TAC spoke saying "None of the covid vaccines are truly approved. This is not like polio of the 1950's. Children are not left as sick or crippled like polio". He went on and at the end said he did not believe this should be passed.

They took a vote from all the TAC members and it was unanimous..."NO mandate for K-12 WA students". The BOH MC said "this issue is done unless/until it comes up again."

BOH then wanted to speak on the "camp" issue, "to clarify". They stated the issue was never on the agenda, it was an internet rumor that went viral. The WAC has been on the books since 2003, it's not new, and most states have similar. One BOH board member stated that if someone, under the law, should be taken to quarantine the health office requesting such and the individual would be in front of a state superior court judge who would decide.
Note...I'm going to re-read the WAC to confirm this, I don't remember it but it's been a long day.

That's it in a nutshell.

1. No activating the WAC that covers isolation/quarantine camps.
2. Mandate for k-12 students being vaccinated voted down unanimously.

That is all.
