Very good points all. But who in the DC establishment follows the Constitution currently? And if they’re not following it now, what assurance is there that they’d follow it in the future, absent a hot war to root them all out?

Actually, the federal government follows the Constitution to the letter. But it's the Living Constitution that the government follows, not the Constitution of Original Intent, something that the late Robert Bork called "the Constitution-in-Exile."

The Living Constitution is what happened to the Constitution after being empretzeled by two centuries of case law. This case law came from loose construction of the Constitution because the amendatory process did not keep up with the changes in the fabric of America. It goes back two centuries.

The Framers would have said that a vigilant and moral citizenry was the guardian of the Constitution, using the ballot box to keep the federal government within the constitutional prison that Madison designed for it. Once the citizenry learned to profit from a piece of their neighbors' wealth, the calculus changed.

The Deep State is intentionally perverting the normal constitutional order in order to confuse many poorly informed people and to discourage many others from the fight. The very people one would be challenging are the same people controlling many of the processes involved.

For example, if the Senate eliminates the filibuster then, instead of a bicameral form of Congress, we will effectively have two 'houses of representatives' subject to majority rule - i.e. mob rule. If, then, the Senate packs the Supreme Court on partisan political grounds, then we have a third house of congress and no separation of powers... IOW, we no longer have a Constitutional Republic.
