An Alabama man faces federal charges over claims he paid a stranger he met on the Kik messenger app $75 to abduct a former female friend and subject her to 'the most brutal rape imaginable.'
Matthias Jacob Edward Mann, 22, was arrested last week in the north Alabama town of Hartselle on charges of attempted kidnapping and attempted coercion.
He was busted after a person who he believed was willing to assault the woman turned out to be a police officer working undercover online, according to a sworn statement from an FBI agent.
'Can anyone abduct and rape a b**** in Wisconsin?' Mann wrote in a channel titled 'Abduction and R@pe 3' on the messaging app Kik, using the username 'Dylan H.'
'Dylan H. described VICTIM as an ex-friend and requested that VICTIM "needs the most brutal anal rape imaginable"' authorities said. The potential victim's relationship to Mann was not outlined beyond prosecutors referring to her as his ex-friend.
Mann allegedly sent $75 through a payment app to cover expenses for the supposed abduction, the statement said, and was arrested Wednesday.
Mann has addresses in Hartselle but also listed addresses in metro Atlanta, where the would-be victim believed he lived, documents show.
Two public defenders named to represent Mann during the hearing did not return an email seeking comment Monday.
A detective with the Owatonna Police Department in Minnesota was monitoring the channel on the Kik app titled on December 29 when he saw a message from a user trying to hire someone to abduct and rape an acquaintance in Wisconsin, the statement said.
'This is a group in which users describe various sexual fantasies, request the sexual assaults of others (with either a knowing or unknowing victim), and trade rape/sexual assault videos,' the FBI wrote of the Kik channel.
