The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says three children survived after falling through an icy pond on Sunday.
Four juvenile relatives were playing on the ice, according to the sheriff’s office, when three of them fell through a pond located at The Addison at Cherry Creek apartments at 9100 E. Florida Ave around 3:24 p.m.
That’s when a bystander, identified as 23-year-old Dusti Talavera, jumped into the pond and pulled a 4-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy out of the water.
She tried to pull the third child, a 6-year-old girl out but struggled to do so, the sheriff’s office said. That’s when a 16-year-old boy, a cousin of the victim, arrived and jumped into the pond and helped Talavera.

I get it. Gender bending has become the rule in journalism, rather than the exception. It makes it difficult to decipher the stories.
I believe the deputy removed the coat of the child, a girl, who needed CPR. ?? What are you suggesting?
I fell through ice on a pond as a kid doing something stupid. I remember
- it was really cold
- it was shallow enough I could stand
- as I tried to get back on top of the good ice it kept breaking as well
- the trick was to spread as much of your weight over as large an area as possible but I still don’t remember exactly how I did it
- the walk home was super cold
Healthy respect for this sort of thing. One of many incidents growing up that could have turned out way different.
Our ponds in Texas froze occasionally. We always sent the 100-lb dog out first to see if it would hold us.

Dusti is quite good looking. Bless her for her heroism.
Not suggesting anything. I just made a silly mistake due to the structure of that sentence.
No. What would be the purpose if the ice is thick?
Some people deserve to be rewarded in this life and the next.
You were lucky. You would have drowned had the water been over your head. Slippery ice, clothes saturated with water, the inability to pull yourself out and onto the ice and the extreme cold would have done you in.
Ice fishermen know to carry ice picks such as these.
True enough.
Thumbs up, Mr. Talavera.
True story. My wife is from Texas. One day we flew into a northern city and saw a frozen pond. She literally couldn’t understand what she was looking at - never seen a frozen body of water before. Honest. True story.
Nice to know there are still good people out there. Thanks for posting.
Heroes are what those helpers are. Saving those kids!! Love it!
“Everything else in life pales before that memory. The dead look in the eyes before CPR and the light returning. Praise God.”
God smiled, and thanked you. You saved one of his innocents. He will welcome you into His kingdom when He calls you home.
