This is true. Or sleep it off in the passenger seat.
It would also help if people didn’t fawn all over them like they are heros for running around with a ball. The last two years, we have had people who just can’t quit watching football in spite of the way the players behave and the front office stab the country in the back.

Depending on state law that might get you a DUI.
Long ago I had a bit too much to drive so I pulled into a parking lot, shut off the engine, put the keys under the floor mat in the back seat and crawled into the passenger seat.
Later I was woken up by a tapping on my window and a bright light shining in my face. Because I had access to the keys, access to the steering wheel and had been drinking I got a DUI and spent the rest of the night in jail.
Fortunately the judge was lenient and dismissed the charge.
The laws of each state are different and enforcement within a state can vary.
No kidding. Even dumber than I thought.
