Duplicate posts are helpful in that more Freepers can see the material.
Important articles should be posted 10-15 time to gain the most Freeper audience.
Most posts die on the vine within hours.
I love duplicate posts and hope they are allowed to continue.
“Most posts “die on the vine” within a few hours.
So duplicate posts increase the chances of Freepers getting the most important information.”
If it wasn’t so prone for selfish people to abuse, having popular high traffic threads bump back to the top would be cool. But the problem is self bumping just to keep their thread up in the limelight even though it doesn’t deserve to be there. The few mess it up for the whole.
This abuse of that system creates a whole lot of animosity between posters, and heartache and work for admin because of folks self bumping their own threads, or bumping threads the majority WANT to slide off and go away. lol :)
Not when it was an actual problem.
I want one!
Have you been reading my mind again?
I was just thinking this morning that the world is a chess game, filled mainly with... puns.
I can count on you not to shy away from this adventure, because it’s “game over” at checkmate. So as I pondered...
... a “bustan” is a Persian garden, and the game of chess comes out of Persia.
As such, the very word “checkmate” comes from Persian:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D8%B4%D8%A7%D9%87_%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AA#Persian
shah (shaw) + mat
Which is “amazing” per those etymologies because that’s like the old place name upon which Boston was founded.
A while back I found a very detailed etym. study. The author had made a compelling case for the “old Indian name” of Shawmut meaning the smaller “neck” of the peninsula; i.e. the isthmus where Middle street runs (Hanover —> Middle—> North Sts).
You can see where the canal cut right across the neck, going to/from Mill Pond.
Map:

So your chess board is analogous to the Boston Stone located at Shawmut, where the “king is dead” as if his head had been cut off by the canal. The ferryman Thomas Marshall kept pretty busy!
Have we hit critical “Mass.” yet? Because the sign at Rachel’s square (pointing down Moon St. to the Scared Heart Italian Church, with dates/times for Mass) says,
“Welcome to the North End, Where Italians trace their roots.”
Or as ancient root meanings and concepts go,
“Welcome to the hidden place, Where the living trace their roots.”
It’s like the story out of Persia, the scroll of Esther aka “The Megillah” which = 93, the same as the “central artery” in that same location, which was purposely hidden by the Big Dig. Massive cost overruns.
(”The king is amazed” — Checkmate!)
The pun is mightier than the s-word.
“Let the Free Republic site create the Title, Author, Date, and Source” ;
Where’s my prize for playing? ;)
Yes, but it no longer shows how many times it has been read/viewed.
I agree with every word you wrote. This site is supported by users, and many simply do not contribute as it is. It’s highly unlikely users would support an expensive overhaul without major grousing and a number of opuses.
Thank you. Some violators do not take such exhortations too kindly.
You are right, and I vaguely remember that feature. But did you know that FR will tell you (Account, top) how many replies you have made? To give God the glory, who is the author of all that is Good.
You find the best inspiration!
I need that kind of can-do motivation. When ya gotta paint, ya gotta paint. It takes time to mask everything off and move stuff out of the way.
Then the project becomes so overwhelmingly tedious just to think about that nothing gets done.
As for the plant — looks like it just needs a little tree topper. That’s as far as I got this year. After hassling with the lights I got the tree topper installed.
I’m going to save it like that so next year I can get to the decorations part.
I wonder if anyone mistakenly thinks I’m joking? About any of that? :)
Ramblin’ Rose,
Ramblin’ Rose
Why you ramble
No one knows
Wild and wind blown
That’s how you’ve grown
Who can cling to
A Ramblin’ Rose?
Ramble on,
Ramble on...
That would help eliminate duplicate topics as well.
Thanks!
Smugmug is a great way to show pictures. There is a Lightroom plug-in...so posting pics is one click of a button.
Wildlife photography is a fabulous hobby and a great way to stay active.
I don’t particularly mind the way FR runs now, but it’s whistling past the graveyard.to pretend 20+ year old software is going to last forever, no matter how many freepathon funded pieces of chewing gum and bailing wire are applied.
To the contrary, I have been on many forums, and this is overall the best despite the wish list. Tell me which forum you think is better and maybe we can compare.
“I love the simplicity of Free Republic.”
Agree. It’s easy to follow conversations — prior posts and later replies. I avoid other sites because you’ll read someone’s post but have no idea what he’s responding to.
Simplicity.
You just completely misread my point. Old software breaks down, loses vendor support and compatibility with other systems and eventually becomes unusable. It has nothing to do with what I like or don’t like. .
“I’d like a post edit/delete button.”
Good idea — being able to delete or edit your own post. In the end, it would mean less work for administrators.
“duplicate posts (on important subjects) are welcome.
... Most posts ‘die on the vine’ within a few hours.”
I agree. I’d have missed a lot of info over the years without the benefit of duplicate posts.
