Could be worse. In WW1, the Austro-Hungarian Army was so short of uniforms that it disinterred the corpses of men killed early in the war so that the uniforms could be reclaimed and reissued.

I didn't know that!

I knew a Marine "Raider" who, while on a mission scouting out some terrain on some gawd-forsaken Pacific islet in WWII, found the skeletonized body of a fellow Marine, and took his uniform because it was in better condition than his own.
