And plugging into your neighbor's outdoor receptacle each night...
Wait a minute, do you actually make money from setting up your PC to mine cryptocurrency?
I mean, all this cryptocurrency crap is a massive scam, but if part of the scam involves just running your PC to run mathematical equations without actually spending any of my own money other than on the equipment and power, I’d love to try that!
Maybe. I talked to a guy at our local computer shop about it. They had a rig set up to mine cryptocurrency (can't recall which). I asked how much they made, and he stated about $50 on that rig, then I asked how much extra the electrify cost them, he said about $45. I'm not sure if he was joking or serious. But it takes a lot of electricity to mine the stuff. Yeah, this guy may be making $800/month in crypto, but how much is he spending for the power to do so?

Yeah because printing paper with dead presidents faces seem to be gaining more and more in value everyday!
you will mine less than the electricity cost to mine it.
Love it! Ha!
Electrify - electricity.
Dont believe it
Clickbait.
“The difficulty is so high...I could make more money working at McDonald’s,” he said.
“you will mine less than the electricity cost to mine it.”
That opens the thought to electricity you don’t pay for.
Like juice from as Tesla supercharger. That came ‘free’ with the vehicle purchase.
We did that here until 2018. That’s when it became a losing proposition in most of the states.
Wait, didnt the BTTF Delorian have a fusion reactor?
I’ll but a telsa when thats standard equip.
Crypto Ping!
How do you mine bitcoin?
Take a look what happens when there is a big loss in the stock market. Crypto nose dives too.
It has no value as an alternate currency because it is too volatile. It will never have mainstream appeal as far as day to day usage is concerned. It is, at best, a useful way to launder money if you're a criminal or to get around tech bans on payment processors in western countries, the latter of which is not relevant to the vast majority of Americans or even Europeans.
It exists for one reason and one reason only: greed. Greedy people thirsting for quick money at the gambling table. Your money can easily double or triple after a big run, and it can collapse just as easily as that. And now while I do greatly enjoy Blackjack at the casino, you have to admit what sort of game you're really playing.
The end of the article says it all to me “make more money working at McDonalds” - in other words, his ingenious scheme to make the car mine crypto may work, but it’s like using a hack saw to cut down an oak tree... possible given enough time, but a worthless unprofitable endeavor.
Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. If the main incentive in doing so is to save on electricity costs, how does using a battery that’s charged with your house current achieve that?
Maybe Tesla still offers free charging at their stations? If so it won’t be much longer.
Yeah I’m sorry but a “currency” you can create by running computers doesn’t make a lot of sense.
If they would just introduce a set number and that’s it, the value would be more clear.
“meaning that he was grandfathered into a scheme where he has free and unlimited supercharging for the life of his vehicle. “
So he made money because he was getting free electricty. This is a non story. What’s next, a CNBC story how some guy is making money selling burgers because he gets free beef?
