Never saw them (too young), but in ‘83 my car battery went dead when I was parked in Brentwood listening to The Doors with a buddy of mine and a couple chicks, and I flagged down a guy in a pickup truck pulling into his driveway who turned out to be Doors’ drummer John Densmore. He didn’t have jumper cables but invited us in to call AAA. To make a long story short, we partied with the guy for the next couple hours, playing pool, smoking out of a pipe given to him by Jim Morrison, and listening to unreleased Doors recordings. Great host, great guy. A night I’ll never forget.
That’s an awesome story! Inspired your handle?
Did he tell you what “Mr. Mojo Risin” means?
Jim Densmore.
Sorry....you were absolutely right....John Densmore.
(2002) I went to see the Knitters at the Knitting Factory on the Sunset Strip. Was at the bar having a pint, I look at the guy having a beer to my left and it was Ray Manzarek. Struck up a conversation about everything but the Doors. Helluva smart and interesting guy. Very nice too. Of course it being Hollywood, I never let on that I knew who he was.
