And as much as I dislike Cruz, if you check back his only wrongdoing on that was his own determination that he had left when he could not do anything about the grid failure and tried to fight the lying media.

My niece went and partied in Brazil a few weeks ago. Got covid and is still stuck there as she is still ill.
I can understand wanting to go party but do it at home or at least in the 48 so you can get home.
I guess there are worse places to be stranded than Tulum. If they want to go home they should rent a car, drive to the border, sneak across, rent another car, and drive to Canada.

I can’t imagine if my child was in a foreign country, sick, alone, isolated, little money and refused passage home. Yes, they are young stupid and did not use the best judgment. Yes their behavior was over the top and broke about every rule and there should be serious consequences. Deal with them AFTER being returned to home country.
Even as an adult it is very scary to be in a Mexico with a seriously ill family member in hospital. We returned to USA after hubby had surgery in Cancun. The hospital, radiology, doctor and air ambulance had to be paid UP FRONT before we could leave on the plane home. The whole situation costs tens thousands of dollars. I certainly hope these folks don’t get seriously ill.
Buy health care and air ambulance insurance especially if leaving the country.

In theory you are correct. They might get extra scrutiny, Canadians driving to Mexico. Plus we know they don’t screen illegal border crossers for Wu flu. I say just go for it. It’s not like they’ll get in any trouble if they get caught.
