WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden hailed a deal between wireless carriers and U.S. regulators that will allow the deployment of new 5G wireless in two weeks and averted an aviation safety crisis.
AT&T and Verizon Communications agreed late Monday to delay C-Band wireless spectrum deployment until Jan. 19 but won key assurances that they will be able to start service this month, according to a Transportation Department letter seen by Reuters.
The delay came after pressure from the White House, aviation unions and a threat by airlines to file suit to block the deployment that could have disrupted thousands of daily flights.

The C-band antennae are directional, laterally, generally in three lobes 120 degrees apart. For cellular C band, they will be low power. No point in wasting power radiating UP.
This is much ado about nothing.
C-band is used for example at San Diego Naval air station.
Will the FAA ever have the courage to tell the truth, regarding future accidents?
Only anonymous Pilot anecdotes will reveal the truth.
>>U.S. President Joe Biden hailed a deal
When your poll numbers are as low as his, I guess he needs to claim a victory’ wherever he can....
I think they mean his advisors hailed the deal.
Agreed...all about nothing except one thing.
China wants control of 5G and so far, Intel, Apple and Qualcomm have prevented this from happening.
Watch for President Poopy to cut a deal for China.
This C-band story is about the RAN (radio access network) portion of the network, no so much the core. China wants the core, where 5G actually lives.
Ah, but that’s science, not politics! Might as well let Doc Fauci set 5G policy.
UNless Nokia and Ericsson go China-made, the 5G core will NOT be unsafe.
-—no point in wasting power radiating UP—So you’re saying that a geek’s 5G phone won’t work OVER an airport. How about UP in hi-rise buildings? My reading on the capability of this tech says the high freguency/ low power nature of this tech requires relays much closer to the user.
And is this stuff the thing that causes Havana Syndrome: microwaves too close to people’s heads? And when getting close to an airport can you assure us that our altimeters will work OK? The Missouri rule is in effect here.
Two week delay ? So whats going to change in two weeks ?
Brandon's diaper?
Putting on a heavy tin-foil hat here; what if certain 5G signals/frequencies energize the graphene oxide from the clot shots and turning it from rounded, somewhat harmless particles to razor sharp mini-blades that can “slice and dice” organs quicker than a New Orleans chef. What if those signals are coded to the specific vaccine serial#s such that they KNOW who/where the people are and just “dial up their number” when they want em dead?
Sure would explain why the communists want everyone “vaccinated”.
At this point, he will congratulate himself when it stops snowing.
This was a 100% government made crisis.
5G is the version level of the network specification, like going from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
It just so happens that the 5G spec supports more spectrum (wider frequencies) than 4G did.
All the legacy licensed spectrum from 4G is supported and used by 5G, but 5G supports far higher frequencies. The C band has been in use for decades, and is just now being licensed for cellular usage. It offers pretty good speeds and OK propagation at cellular power levels.
The gigabit speeds promised on 5G are only available via the much higher 20-30+ gHz bands. And those propagate horribly. Line of sight, short range, no bounce around corners.
When talking about 5G one has to segregate the network spec, 5G, from the radios (towers) than operate many different frequencies. Very little deployed 5G uses ANY spectrum different from 4G. The network software is quite different and so are the radios in your phone and on the ‘tower’.
5G itself is no menace. High powered microwaves can be, but cellular radios are quite low powered, and governed by long existing MPE (maximum exposure ratings) rules.
Do not fear 5G.
That’s some great RF porn right there!
And helpful if folks know what they are looking at.
Brandon thinks 5 G is $5000
For the big guy
