I had caused so much upheaval, so much suffering, and for what? He asked me that, at first, again and again: For what? So I could put my face in the wind. So I could see the sun’s glare. I didn’t say that out loud.

Geez! These are the exact things that I DON’T want to do. I don’t want to put my face in the wind. I don’t want to see the sun’s glare. What a weirdo!

Sadly, nowhere in this story does it say the husband was holding her back from putting her face in the wind or seeing the sun's glare.

I think she was looking for a reason to have a divorce and just made herself feel better about her decision. Why wouldn't a wife, in a good marriage, be able to feel the wind or see the sun?!?

Besides, her husband seemed as ready to jump from this marriage ship, so it was probably for the best - EXCEPT - divorce is HARD for children unless there is a valid reason, which the kids know or can see.

This seems like nothing more than a divorce of convenience, which the kids will resent until the day they die (if they ever understand marriage properly)!
