I am sure that FR is monitored by a lot of LEOs. Most are just here because they are part of the community and love FR. I was one, the last 12 years of my career I was enjoying FR and posting every day from a fed-gov office computer.
I figured since it was a gov computer they were watching but nobody ever said anything. I was always carful before I hit post to make sure that what I was about to say would not come back to bight me.
I still live by that rule to this day because they are still watching.
Thank you for sharing that. And I understand, I have only myself to blame. I have been visited by the feds also, and had my domain hacked by the DOD and the NIC at the request of McCain because I hurt his feelings on Twitter.
What bothers me about the local LE visits is that I know it was because I offended someone here with my criticisms of current LE policy and practices. So they personally went out of their way to research my posts here, put 2&2 together, and then use their connections in LE to chase me down.
Using “privileged resources” like this just because you had your feelings hurt in a forum is just wrong. Would you agree?
And I have proof of all this. What the person I offended did not know is that I work with the local LE all the time in my line of work, and I am a member of the local volunteer S&R.
I drink beer with these kids. As I do with their fathers, and as my Dad who was an officer did with their Grandfathers. It was these beer buddies who asked me why someone would be remotely using their local resources to locate me.
So I told them... All they could do was shake their heads. So whoever was fishing most likely got nothing. But it doesn’t change that they tried and abused privileged resources.
I was trolled by LEO in the aftermath of the 2000 election (Nov-Dec of 2000) for my “intemperate” comments, I guess.
They were urging me to get guns and ammo and join them up in the mountains of AZ.
When I begged off saying I was just an old guy and I would leave revolution to the youngsters they stopped, and the account disappeared.
