I think some around me have just gone to half staff full time.

The 13 young soldiers that biden killed are probably worthy of half staff. Can’t think of any other recent events/deaths. Technically, the flag should maybe be flown upside down these days.
The problem with this is that it ‘rewards’ mostly politicians. .Gov shouldn’t be praised. The sacrifice of veterans are already earned with esprit de corps, community respect and the knowledge of sacrifice.

I am with you 100% on this.
Leftist Politicians have abused this mark of respect (lowering the flag) to the point at any given time, I can drive around and see flags somewhere that are at half-mast. (I’m Navy, so I call it “half-mast”. Some will shoot me for that. Don’t care...:)
I despise it. I feel that it puts our country in a constant state of victimhood and mourning. I think it is weak and stupid.
These days they lower the flag every time somebody gets a hangnail. I am sick of it. School shooting, dead negro, enough is enough. Raise the flag!
We had a thousand men KIA on Tarawa in three days, and almost 7000 dead in Iwo Jima in thirty days, and we didn’t fly the flag at half-mast for them.
If anyone deserved it, they didn’t. I would say do it for Presidents only, and even then, I have reservations for Presidents like Obama and Biden. Carter, while inept and petty, did love his country (I think) so he would be okay.
It’s great if I catch a chick wearing a American flag bikini during a mourning period and let her know that her bottoms need to be at half mast.
For some of them, using a longer pole is sensible. Sparklers might help with the mood.

Guaranteed when Trump passes away (it won’t matter how far into the future that will be, it could be 100 years from now), there will be a vigorous debate in the media about why politicians deserve any public honors. Then, when a liberal icon dies, the calls for a state holiday will immediately be trumpeted without irony.
