I don't fly often, once or twice a year maybe. I hate flying. The claustrophobic spam in a can for 6 hours is frustrating, and sometimes requires deep breathing when I feel a minor claustrophic attack coming on. Plus I'm a moderately big guy, (about 5'11", 235) so if I end up in the middle seat it's uncomfortable, for at least me, and maybe my seatmates. I have moderate rheumatoid arthritis, so not moving for hours results in a painful “fold out.”

I usually skip the complimentary beverage, other than a small cup of water without ice to wet my mouth, in order to cut down on bathroom necessities.

But I do get good fares, coast to coast sometimes for less than $200. RT $400-500.

I suppose my problem is I'm a cheap b@st@rd, I could spring for first class, or at least another $40 for an aisle seat, rather than hoping the seat lottery will give me one for free.

Disliking airline heads as much as I do, I always take 2 Immodiums about 8 hours before a flight. Unlike you, I’m ready to trade cash for comfort. About twelve years ago I drove to CA and back from TN, discovered the drive cost a little more than a 1st class round trip, and, ever since, have flown 1st class to CA whenever I could.
