Just had my annual. Only off number was LDL and that just a tad. We had decreased my niacin to 1000 so we upped it to 1500. I have been taking 6000 vit D per MD for years. Number is 65.

I am impressed by your long term high dose of D3. D is an anti-viral in addition to other actions. I was not thinking about D when I had blood tested 4 years ago. But last month I looked at those tests and my D levels 4 years ago were 34. Now that I make a point of taking D3 I am up to 74 ng/ml. By taking D3 I mean 10000 units daily, augmented by K2 and magnesium.

Do you take your niacin with meals? Do you take it in the form of 500mg 3x daily? I should start on it. Is the Niacin for your heart and arteries? Do you take flush free niacin or the kind that makes you flush? I do have some of the flushing niacin in the house.

Niacin, or Vitamin B3, is the best agent known to raise blood levels of HDL, which helps remove cholesterol deposits from the artery walls. At least four out of every 10 people with coronary artery disease fit this profile. Some patients in this study received simvastatin and niacin, while others received antioxidants.

Also, does niacin reduce plaque in arteries?
Nov. 16, 2009 (Orlando, Fla.) — A prescription version of niacin beat out a blockbuster cholesterol-lowering drug in slowing the buildup of plaque in artery walls, researchers report. The study pitted extended-release niacin, sold as Niaspan, which works by boosting levels of HDL “good” cholesterol, against ezetimibe.

Additionally, can you reverse plaque buildup in your arteries? Plaques begin in artery walls and grow over years. Blocked arteries caused by plaque buildup and blood clots are the leading cause of death in the U.S. Reducing cholesterol and other risk factors can help prevent cholesterol plaques from forming. Occasionally, it can even reverse some plaque buildup.

In this way, what Vitamin cleans your arteries?

Niacin is also known as vitamin B-3. It’s found in foods such as liver, chicken, tuna, and salmon. It’s also available as a supplement. Your doctor might recommend niacin supplements to help with your cholesterol, since it can increase your “good” cholesterol levels by more than 30 percent.

Is niacin good for the heart?

Niacin has long been used to increase people’s levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or the “good” cholesterol, and has been a major focus of research into heart disease prevention for several decades. However, clinical trials have not shown that taking niacin in any form actually prevents heart problems.
