You haven’t listened to much Alex Jones, have you? I have.

The Left tries to paint Alex Jones as representative of normal right wing/independents and conservatives, and I agree with most of what he says, but some of his “theories” are absolutely Looney Toons.

In a constant struggle to gain and hold an audience, from show to show, month to month, Alex Jones slides between normal, MAGA-style populism and wild crackpot theories. Unfortunately, Jones' manner is frantic and domineering and veers between energy and a nuttiness that overwhelms everything else. At Jones' worst, one imagines him as a loud-voiced, manic, swivel-eyed loon trying to grab and hold people by the lapels.

In contrast, Art Bell's genial personality was essential to making him extraordinarily successful in developing a vast radio audience for paranormal and off beat subjects. His approach was to treat even wild theories and peculiar guests as entitled to a forum and a fair opportunity to present their ideas and experiences. Yet close listeners could tell when Bell was not a believer, only an interviewer.

Similarly, Rush Limbaugh's (a professional friend of Bell's) had a conversational manner and engaging personality that enabled him to make a success of a daytime political talk show. And Limbaugh also had a discipline about facts that Jones utterly lacks. Even when saying more or less the same thing, Limbaugh sounded reasoned and reasonable while Jones often sounds like a meth addict on a bender.
