Oh I know. Bill Gates wouldn’t have been anyone but a nameless coding nerd if it weren’t for IMB passing on IP rights for the work Gates did for them in the 70s.

The reason why a very very wealthy software nerd is dabbling in world health now is my point.

IBM, I believe you meant.

His father was part of the heirarchy at the Patent office. He set up the sale for the patents IBM held on computer language and sold it for $54,000 to his son.

That is from memory, which is a bit faulty at times. In short, Dad was charged with dispensing of the IBM nuggets from their breakup, and of course logically loaned his son the money to purchase the loot and set them all up with generational wealth.
