Curious, what if it was a ccw holder that took down the perp and an innocent person died as a result of a bullet going through a wall and killing them, would they be looking at Criminal or Civil Liability? Would it be a different conversation?
I DON’T BELIEVE IN SPECIAL RIGHTS FOR ANYONE.
“What was the cop supposed to do?”
Why, you shoot him in the leg.
Every bullet you fire has a lawyer hooked to it.
I see a majority of replies on this thread are blaming the cop.
Yes of course, he should not have fired.
Allowing the suspect to shoot and kill 8-10 Christmas shoppers because one cop didn’t have a clear shot.
Now you’re just making stuff up. Those are not the actual two choices that existed.
Really?
1. Shoot.
2. Don’t shoot.
What’s the third choice?
Maybe, I count five out of 23.

Well, the investigation isn't complete, and verbal reports are confusing, however Police have stated that no gun was found at the scene, and the perp used a bike lock to assault the female victim.
If the perp had no firearm, then there is significant difficulty in justifying Police use of firearms under the conditions at the time the police officer(s) discharged their firearm(s).
If any or all cops were mistaken in the belief that the perp possessed a firearm, they are in a situation very similar to Potter, they made an honest mistake.
20 years in prison or no?
Make an arrest? Use a taser on a suspect? Make sure you know the trajectory of your bullet? Good thing you’re not a cop.
starting to really have concerns about the police (larger communities) and their roles as enforcers for the totalitarian govt wishes.
