Get the make and model off the box. Easy to look up the rest
very place has hard water. Most cities in the midwest soften it with calcium carbonate (white rock on rural roads) but it still has a lot of minerals in it when it comes to your house. A water softener will remove and replace the minerals. If you call a couple water treatment companies in your area, they can tell you the hardness rating of your water.
City water is easier to treat then well water due to the ratings but once you have a softener, you’ll never go back. We first got one when we had a well and now we’re in town and we had ne installed. Ours cost around $2k but you can get one from the big box stores for a couple hundred dollars and have a plumber install. Best of luck.
