Collins Street Bakery is way overrated and over priced.

I think the fresh, bakery-made versions sound amazing.

Some say their version is best for French toast. 😍😍

Stollen is a great Christmas pastry. We have friends in Germany that send it to us.

Everything Italian is hard to get right now. Feast of the fishes is coming up in two days, not to mention Christmas Day.

Typically, Di Palo’s doesn’t open early so you can get there before work.

Ah Jeez another form of fruitcake. :-)

Its just pointlessly bad sweet bread. Did the Kings Hawaiian factory burn down?

Stolen is a better form of sweet bread but fruit cake is the way to go.

Real Pannetone takes 3 days to raise

This one cheats and use baking soda/cream tartar

“Not that crazy about fruitcake, but really there’s hardly any comparison between the two.”

Totally agree! No comparison. panettone is light airy and aromatic, fruit cake is like a brick.

"...Claxton fruitcakes..."

Yes - the BEST fruitcake I've ever had.
A totally different thing than stollen.
Stollen is lighter than fruitcake and does not contain any nuts, I believe.
Stollen is lightly dusted with powdered sugar also.

Yup - homemade Stollen + Claxton fruitcake + 12 batches of
Mom's homemade Christmas cookies every year. I'd pack on a few
pounds over the holidays.

But all of the produce from Dad's vegetable garden every summer -
plus summertime activites (including working the garden) would
get the the pounds back off.

There are plenty of varieties of panettone that don't involve fruit. Sadly, I scored some Tiramisu panettone this year and had to throw it out because it made me sick. It was from Italy and was delicious but didn't sit right. Buyer beware, I guess.

"...I got 3 home made banana nut breads ..."

A friend of mine has taken to making 'banana bread' the easy way.
He take a box of cake mix (any kind) mixes it up with several
mashed bananas, eggs, milk, whatever, puts it in a loaf pan and bakes it.
They are surpisingly good. Every one I've tried is, anyway.
