Chlorine Dioxide is a common disinfectant used in purifying water when hiking or backpacking. I’ve used in many times.

But, the instructions say to wait after treatment before drinking to allow the chemical to react and dissipate.

It wasn’t clear from the article how they were using the chlorine dioxide. If per instructions it’s not harmful.
