I buy them with 150k and run them until 250k or more.

That's what I used to do for my long commute cars. The sweetest was a 1988 Crown Vic. Bought it at 107k. SMOOTH ride, 5L V8 that got 30MPG. It was still running great (original injectors and spark plugs!) at 257k when I sold it.

For the family we buy new and make them last.

Yeah those Crown Vic police and taxis go forever, 400,000 miles is pretty common from what I read.

Ford fuel injectors from that era (1988 or so) are known to eventually start leaking where the connector plugs in. It’s a very slight leak, but enough you’ll smell gas under the hood and it will show up with a UV light with UV dye added to the gas.

Happened on my 1988 Mustang GT right about when it was 15 years old.
