Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza were wonderful places to shop, have lunch, dinner and go to a movie. MARTA brought changes. Initially it was ok but then hordes of teens traveling in packs descended on Lenox Mall. If you were a white person you may have felt like a snowball in a coal mine.
Pushing, shoving, and escalating crime, made Lenox and Phipps undesirable places to be. Underground parking in both malls was in my opinion scary particularly when traveling with kids and hauling shopping bags. I really felt very vulnerable.
They now have metal detectors at the Lenox Square entrances, and a 3:00 p.m. curfew after which unaccompanied minors under the age of 18 are not allowed in the mall.
Still have to watch for the robbers in the parking lot, though.
