The UFO lore goes back a long time. It is very clear that those craft did not originate here. It was also clear the the government was purposefully hiding something.

I read something years ago that actually makes sense given today's events. Following the Roswell crash the government successfully tried to make contact with ETs. President Eisenhower met with them at Muroc; and, ET told him that the world must coalesce under a single government because they were NOT going to establish diplomatic relations with 300 individual nations on a backward planet. The quest for global government commenced.

Now that we seem to be closing on global governance we see the government trying to acclimate the public to the ET presence.
