Perhaps the kids are just now figuring out what all this government Largess is going to cost them? All the old farts passing these large debt ridden budgets have all their goodies, house, land, cars, education, pensions. All the things the kids aren’t going to be able to afford due to their government, taxes, policies, and regulations.
Elections have consequences.

Two things that liberals of every age have is this certainty that they are smarter than everyone and always right, and this absolute loathing of being embarrassed.

They fear they were wrong about Joe, and he’s embarrassing the hell out of them.

It’s a perfect storm for their tender psyches.
