I've never been to this spot, based on the neighborhood, I'd think the family that owned it (and the hero son) are most likely Asian.
Could it be that local news sources have realized that they've poured to many flames onto the Asian community and enraged the black population?
They could keep their powder dry and wait a week or so for a white person to defend themselves against a black-attack.

Philly Community College one block away. Many nice brownstone apartments. Hillarys campaign office and lots of union offices. Elaine Tate (Inky food critic) lived down the street before she got married to Walt.
