Tomb of Alexander the Great.

Imagine this, it is said that they hauled his dead body around for years before they buried him. Even fought over his dead body.

re: Alexander the Great

His sarcophagus was reportedly made of crystal so the body could be viewed. It was being transported back to Macedonia and was hijacked by soldiers serving Ptolemy, the general and future dynast of Egypt. It was transported to Alexandria Egypt and was apparently available for viewing for many years. Some speculate the sarcophagus is somewhere out there in the sea fronting the city.. so is Cleopatra’s. The sea level is so much higher now that most of ancient Alexandria is out there in the sea. Why the tomb wasn’t treasured and preserved is lost to time.. there is no record of what became of it.

The presence of a macedonian-carved fragment of marble fitting the dimensions of the sarcophagous of alexander (originally for the pharaoh that was deposed) among the relics at st. mark’s in venice has intrigued me since I first read about it.

bodies do get lost over centuries but there is at least a possibility alexander’s remains are in venice today, and a greater possibility that even if not, the remains in venice were once presented as being alexander.
