My son in law got tested yesterday and came back positive. They were trying to tell him it was “O”.
He knows they need to do genetic testing. My daughter, his wife, works for the company doing testing. There is No WAY on earth they are going genetic testing for a walk in COVID clinic.
The good news is he has 10 days off before Christmas. The better news is that he can keep his idiot family away for ten days (his brothers and cousins are idiots—not my side. At least that’s what he tells us!)
Due to one of the mutations in the S-protein, some PCR tests give a different result for Omicron, called an "S-Gene Target Failure" (SGTF). There were earlier variants that caused this result, but Omicron is the only one circulating now. Most "O" cases right now are identified by a positive PCR test with an SGTF. So the lab might have been correct. Or they might be BSing.
