If Grambling, the university was white, with Grambling, the town being black, building a fence to protect the university and its students, faculty, and staff would be condemned as racist. As it is, such a fence is just common sense.

Similarly, in Tallahassee, Florida A&M, the state's major HBU, is located in a crime-ridden black neighborhood. Gradually, FAMU has installed fencing, police checkpoints, and other security measures. No one with a lick of sense wants to be a crime victim.

What you reward you get more of and what you punish you get less of.

Crime is a problem in urban areas is because it is rewarded (few arrest and few sent to jail, or in the case of California raised the amount an individual can steal before police can even do anything).

A fence will not solve their problem (ever hear of fence cutters).

Grambling used to be an enormous powerhouse of great football. I never hear of them anymore . . . well, until just now. What happened to their former greatness.

It will be interesting to see if major private or public
universities located near crime-ridden neighborhoods put up fences. Several big names universities come to mind:
Columbia University
The University of Chicago
Johns Hopkins.
The University of Pennsylvania

Both Columbia and the University of Chicago saw students murdered on or near the campus during the past few months.

What happened to Grambling Football? Integration happened. The best black football players are now going to LSU, Bama, Ole Miss, Georgia, And so forth.
