Per NPR a few months ago:
"The position of the jet stream also appears to have an impact on tornadoes and which parts of the country are more likely to experience them. During La Niña winters, the jet stream and severe weather are likely to be farther north."
NPR's graphic even shows the Jet Stream near the area of the Tornado's, which is a component of large Tornado Outbreaks:
Aint heard anything from Pig Face Bidet yet.

“crazy weather pattern”
My theory is that the wind mill farms disrupt the prevailing westerlies.

“One stayed on the ground 274 miles”
That’s astonishing.
“”The great 1974 outbreak killed 64.””
That had to be the one that hit Xenia, OH. We lived in Centerville, OH at the time. Moved there from CA just the year before and knew absolutely zero about tornadoes. There were warnings/watches on TV for hours before it hit. We were a few miles from Xenia and that damage was tremendous. The pictures I’m seeing on the Weather Channel now in KY look a lot worse to me than what we saw in 1974...
“”This is the normal fall tornado season””
Is that sarcasm? I thought the tornado season ended in November - NORMALLY!
Yes, it is. The 1925 Tri-state twister was thought to have stayed on the ground for 219 miles, the all-time record, although revisions claim that some of that was from a second or third tornado.
But the path they eventually estimate for this one will have been confirmed by continuous Doppler radar confirmation. It makes the original path Tri-state sound plausible, after all.
Scary stuff!
Yeah, they can’t help themselves.
Biden said it was “a Hurricane”
I was off. 200+ miles.
I’m not 100% sure but I’m nearly that that same Tornado went about 10 miles from my house in S Indiana!!!
It stayed on the ground for an incredible amount of time then strengthened and hit Xenia.
Well can I change my mind again?
I just read this, seems I was closer the first time:
“It’s still preliminary and needs a full survey completed. That will take a long time. Still, this tornado track may go down as the longest track in US history. 4 states and possibly 300+ miles. It was gut wrenching watching it unfold. Over 50 lives lost so far. A good friend of mine had his church and the parsonage he lives in destroyed. Lives were forever changed last night. Pray for all those affected!”
