My favorite failed presidential nominee is Michael Dukakis. He just faded into the obscurity of private life. The last I heard from him was a couple of years ago, when I read an interview and he talked about how he collected turkey carcasses from friends and family during the holidays to make soup out of them. I’m sure he was disappointed at losing the election, but he didn’t subject the world to a never-ending pity party, and he lever licked his wounds in public.
He had class, a life, a sense of self, and knew when to walk away.

Mike had a cousin who was a well known theater actress;
Olympia Dukakis. Olympia died back in May of this year after a long life. I don’t recall her ever mentioning her family tie with Mike D. Of course that may have been at his own request. Mike and his wife Kitty have been very private people for the last 20 years or so.
