Friday Silliness ping!
When my girls were little I used to make food panoramas for them.
When I was home for the day they wanted to eat about 6 times a day like they were hobbits. One of the things they liked for second breakfast was when I would fry a couple pieces of different kinds of sausages and bake some 1/4” slabs of bacon. Put a layer of baked beans on the plate (makes a desert floor), curve and balance the bacon on its side along one side of the plate (this creates mountains in the distance), place the sausage boulders in various places and add a small toy so it looked like it was travelling through.
Their favorite was probably the under the sea plate. I would cut the lower 3/4 of a couple of skinless wieners in quarter strips then do it again through the strips. Put some green food color in the ramens and just the beans from a few edamame. You place the green noodles on the plate and scatter the beans on it them place the hot dogs so the legs are splayed out (it becomes an octopus). I would carve up a small cucumber to look like a shark. Put some seaweeds and things in with parsley and such. Add a small school of swedish fish.
I found a really good recipe for dinner rolls. The recipe came from Morocco. One of the things that made the recipe unique was that it included thyme.
I checked our spice cabinet. We had some thyme, but the “Best Used By” date had long past. I used it in the recipe anyway.
The rolls tasted great.
As I reminisce, I like those old thyme Moroccan rolls.
